I’m glad to present a personal project, a Middle Asian legend of a place named Shahjuvar.
This is a story of love and bravery. But most of all it is a story
about love that stands above everything else - love for your homeland.
The legend tells about a blacksmith's daughter, who gave her life fighting for her hometown,
and her beloved who turned into a stone when he heard of the girl's death. Rumor says the wounded blacksmith's daughter fell into the river and became a silverfish. Several times a year the silvery fish swims to the young man embodied in stone. And then a miracle happens: the stone begins to overflow, and a beautiful dombra melody flows over the mountains.
It is the song that the young man, who turned into a stone, sang about his love for the silverfish—the blacksmith's daughter. Only the person with a kind heart and pure thoughts can hear this music.
A bit of a process:
Rough sketches. Brainstorming, searching for the rhythm of the story.
Searching for the color palette. The main goal here was to find the right colors to create atmosphere and emotions in the illustrations. I wanted to tell the story not only through drawing but also through colors
